Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a “nose job,” is a surgical procedure aimed at improving the appearance and function of the nose. This procedure can address a variety of concerns, including aesthetic issues such as a crooked nose, a bump on the bridge, or a wide nostril, as well as functional issues such as nasal obstruction caused by a deviated septum. Rhinoplasty can be performed for cosmetic reasons, to enhance facial harmony, or for reconstructive purposes, such as repairing nasal damage caused by injury or congenital conditions. The surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia and can be done using two main techniques: open rhinoplasty, where a small incision is made across the columella (the tissue between the nostrils), and closed rhinoplasty, where incisions are made inside the nostrils. We reshape the bone, cartilage, and tissue to achieve the desired result, with precise adjustments to ensure proper airflow and aesthetic appeal.

The recovery process following rhinoplasty typically involves swelling, bruising, and some discomfort, which gradually subsides over the weeks following surgery. A splint may be placed on the nose to help maintain its shape during the healing process. Patients are generally advised to avoid strenuous activities and direct trauma to the nose for several weeks. Results from rhinoplasty are often long-lasting, though the final appearance of the nose may take several months to fully stabilize as swelling continues to diminish. While rhinoplasty can have a significant impact on one’s appearance and self-esteem, it’s important for patients to have realistic expectations about the outcomes and understand that, in some cases, secondary procedures may be needed for further refinement. The procedure, when performed by a skilled surgeon, can help patients achieve a more balanced, proportionate look while enhancing both the function and aesthetics of the nose.
